Chateau Pomije (Ohio River Velley) Catawba (no year on label, bought 10/96)
- Date Consumed: 12/02/96
- Price: $13
- Alocohol: 12%
- BW: This is a big fruity blush wine, rather sweet, with strong floral and citrus flavors. More spritz and less sweetness would make it an outstanding wine. B-
- SD: Visiting the Chateau Pomije winery was one of the strangest tasting experiences. The Pomije people seemed to invent the pricing as they went along (yes, they did charge for tasting, but we splurged and tasted them all); later they were confused as to how much the wines themselves cost. The catawba was our favorite of the selections, semi-sweet fruitiness with a nice spritz. It sits a little heavy on the tongue with a syrupy finish, but there is a refreshing perkiness in the body which helps compensate. Overall, a nice midwestern wine, if a little overpriced. It came in a bottle labeled "Concord", with the word "Concord" scratched off and "Catalpa" [sic] written above it in pen. A fun, odd, and somewhat pricey day it was. C+

Handley Anderson Valley Pinot Noir Rosé
- Date Purchased: 8/94 (winery)
- Date Consumed: 4/27/95
- Price: ~ $8?
- SD: Clear, unusually orange rosé. Very crisp and fruity, full of strawberries. Cute! Tastes very carboniquey, though I have no idea what that means. B

Villa Milan Vino di John (Ohio River Valley Red Table Wine), no year on label, bought 4/96
- Date Consumed: 5/25/96
- Price: $9.50
- Alcohol:
- BW: The color is an unusual rusty orange-red. The bouquet is sharp and uninviting. This is a light-bodied red with a bit of spritz, nicely dry, but not much else to recommend it. C
- SD: The color is brownish ruby blush, a muddy river wine. The woodsy bouquet brings memories of the Ozarks. Very different DeChaunac flavor, a bit too foxy but quaffable nonetheless. Worth trying for a new experience. C
