The Dumbbell Nebula (NGC 6853)

This bright, large planetary nebula is probably the most prominent of all planetary nebulae. On low power, it is a luminous disk with an interior intensified in a bowtie shape. With a slightly higher magnification only the interior remains, but with incredible detail. Wisps of gas and variations in brightness can't fail to be noticed in this double blob of light. There is a small star on one corner side.
