M-97 is a large, dim planetary of the twelth magnitude. It is found about two degrees from Megrez in the direction of Phecda. On a dark, clear, moonless night it is best observed, where it satnds out as a circular disk some three times the width of the Ring Nebula. Its name, the "Owk Nebula", refers to the two "eyes" in the object -- darker areas visible only on the best of nights.
