In the same field of view as the second magnitude star Alnitak in Orion's belt is the diffuse nebula H.V.28. This nebula is very dim, and it is a challenge to see it. People often mistake it for I 434, the Horsehead Nebula, which is nearby and even dimmer. In fact, however, both are part of the same, expansive nebula. 2024 is very elusive, and averted vision certainly helps. The nebula appears to be split in half by a dark lane, giving ot a hollow appearance. Weak radio source.
